oscillations
oscillations
the death of an amplifier. When an amplifier has positive feedback, it may break into oscillations, which is unwanted high-frequency signal. This signal is unrelated to the amplified input signal. Because of this, oscillations interfere with the desired signal. Oscillations make an amplifier useless. This is why a compensating capacitor is used with an op amp; it prevents the oscillations from occurring.
