is the hardware and associated software needed for communication between
processors and peripheral devices to conipensate for the difference in their
operating characteristics (e.g. speeds codes etc.). A number of international
standard iiiterfaces and associated protocols have been defined. These include
the RS232 (also known as the V.24) and the RS423.
