>COUNCIL: Girl Scouts of Southeastern PA
>
>MATERIALS: small clay flower pot (about 2 1/2" tall), 1/4"
> 1/2" ribbon (any color or print),
> small sponge
> paintbrush
> paint - any colors but works best with a dark and a light color (red

> very little bauble - tiny silk flower ornament, pine cone, etc.
> small candle approx. 2 1/4" tall and 1 1/2" wide - any color but looks
>best if you match the color of the dark paint
> glue.
>
>PROCEDURE:
>Paint the clay pot with the light color paint. When dry, sponge paint
>over light paint with dark paint but do not completely cover the light -
>paint sparingly so that you leave patches of light. When dry, tie ribbon
>around mouth of clay pot (I find it works best if I
>glue it in place). Glue bauble onto middle of bow. Insert candle.
>
>CAUTIONS/ SPECIAL NOTE: When sponge painting, be sure not to put to
>much paint on the sponge. The amount of light paint that you want
>showing is entirely up to you. When burning candle, be sure not to let
>it burn down to far. Scented candles work very well. I love to use the
>pine scented one around the holidays.

>CRAFT TITLE:Pinecone reindeer face ornament
>AGE LEVEL:all
>CONTRIBUTOR:Ginger Schneider
>COUNCIL:GSC of River Trails, MN
>
>MATERIALS: 2 inch pinecone dried so it is opened
> 1/8 inch red pom
> 1 chenelle stem brown (pipe cleaner)
> 2 goggily eyes 1/8 inch
> 1/4 inch red ribbon (6 inch length)

>CRAFT TITLE:Holiday Hair Barrettes
>AGE LEVEL:Brownies and Juniors with assistance, Cadettes and Seniors
>CONTRIBUTOR:Sarah Wilson
>COUNCIL:Swift Water Girl Scout Council
>
>MATERIALS: Metal Hair Barrette (large or small): can be purchased at
>craft stores, holiday candy
> clear polyurethane
> sponge-type "paintbrush"
> glue gun
>
>PROCEDURE:
>Glue holiday candy on barrette. Smaller candy can be layered (like
>holiday m&ms). Using paintbrush, cover candy with polyurethane (1 coat
>works, but 2 coats are better, allowing the barrette to dry inbetween
>coats). Try to remove any drips that are "hanging" off the barrette
>(with the brush)and would therefore dry in that position. The barrettes
>can dry on a rack made by nailing large nails into a board or by
>stringing a piece of string through the barrette and hanging it off of a
>broomstick suspended between two stationary items. Let the barrettes
>dry overnight. If kept in a dry, cool place the barrettes can last for
>years! (can also do this with different holidays, i.e. candy corn for
>Halloween, Jelly beans for Easter, etc.)
>
>CAUTIONS/SPECIAL NOTES: Hot Glue Gun requires adult supervision for
>younger girls. Polyurethane is not easy to clean off of hands, so
>perhaps the adults could do that step? I've done this with my Senior
>troop and we do this project in my basement so it doesn't matter if
>things get messy, and the barrettes can stay in place overnight while
>drying.
>

>CRAFT TITLE: String Ornament/decoration
>AGE LEVEL: Brownies and up
>CONTRIBUTOR: Christie Holmes
>COUNCIL: Seal of Ohio
>
>MATERIALS: small balloons
> string-crochet string, kite string, etc.
> white glue (water it down a bit)
> silk or dried flowers (I recycled some old arrangements)
>
>PROCEDURE:
>Water down the glue a little bit, put it in foil pie pans or other
>disposable dishes. I spread a shower curtain out on the floor when we
>did this, because Brownies get really messy doing this! Each girl blows
>up their balloon to the size they want, and knots it. Starting with the
>end of their string, dip a quantity of it in the glue mixture and start
>wrapping the string around the balloon, in all directions. Do not make
>the balloons too large--keep them very small, ornament size, or the
>girls will be wrapping for hours. Once the balloons are well-covered,
>you can add glitter while they are still wet, if you wish. Hang them to
>dry by tying a piece of string to the know end, suspend from a hanger.
>We hung ours from basement rafters to dry, making sure they don't
>touch. Cover the floor area with that old shower curtain or newspaper,
>as they might drip a little. When they are dry, pop the balloon (some
>will have shriveled already) and remove. Girls can glue flowers around
>the ornament, or cluster at the top. They can add ribbons and bows,
>seasonal decorations like little plastic Santas, doves, etc. You can
>also use those mushroom birds you can buy in floral departments, use
>spaghnum moss, and create sort of a birds nest at the top. The ideas
>are limitless depending on what materials you have available.
>
>CAUTIONS/SPECIAL NOTES
>Words of advice--thicker crochet thread is better. It comes in lots of
>colors. Ask around and veteran crocheters will probably have odds and
>ends to donate to you, which is where I got mine. Girls must wear OLD
>clothes that day. I used Washable Elmer's white glue, but it is still a
>messy project. It is amazing how many places that gluey string can get
>when you have a dozen or so Brownies. The moms really liked this-we
>gave them as presents. Some of the girls made them for their teachers,
>also. Don't water the glue down too much, or the string won't be stiff
>enough. Just a little bit of water to make it more "dip-able."
