>>CRAFT TITLE: Thanksgiving Roots
>>Children are often fascinated by growing things, and Thanksgiving is a
>>nice time of year to grow something because of the change in seasons.
>>Paperwhite narcissus is simple to grow indoors, and if planted on
>>Thanksgiving with a Christmas wish, will bloom by Christmas and remind
>>children of what they wished for. You can supply the children with yarn
>>or poster paints to decorate their pots. One of the older children can
>>help the younger children.
>>
>>AGE LEVEL: All Levels.
>>CONTRIBUTOR: Joanne Moodhe
>>COUNCIL: Rockland County Girl Scout Council, Inc.
>>
>>MATERIALS: 4 paperwhite narcissus bulbs
>> 6" ceramic pot (There should be no hole in the bottom because the
>>bulbs will grow in a bed of pebbles and water.)
>> Pebbles - to fill each pot
>> Yarn and glue or poster paints (optional)
>>
>>PROCEDURE:
>>* Place a 2" layer of pebbles in the bottom of the pot.
>>* Put the bulbs on top of the pebbles, roots down.
>>* Leave about 1" between the bulbs so they can grow.
>>* And more pebbles so that the bulbs are supported.
>>* Pour water into the pot until it reaches the tops of the bulbs.
>>* Be sure they always have water and some sunlight so they grow.

>>CRAFT TITLE: Stuffed Turkey
>>In this project you will make a 3-dimensional turkey that stands on its
>>own feet. It is made of paper and stuffed with facial tissue. It makes a
>>nice Thanksgiving decoration, and several smaller ones can be made into
>>a mobile.
>>
>>AGE LEVEL: All Levels.
>>CONTRIBUTOR: Joanne Moodhe
>>COUNCIL: Rockland County Girl Scout Council, Inc.
>>
>>MATERIALS: • Scissors
>> • Glue
>> • Pencil
>> • Crayons or markers
>> • Facial tissue.
>>
>>PROCEDURE:
>>
>>Step 1 - Color the turkey any colors you like. Wild turkeys have
>>feathers in shades of brown, but I like to add a few orange feathers for
>>color.
>>
>>Step 2 - Cut out the pieces for the turkey on the outlines. You will
>>have two bodies, two wings, and one tail.
>>
>>Step 3 - Glue Body. Put one body piece with the colored side down. Apply
>>a small bead of glue on the edge along the back, around the head and
>>neck, and halfway to the feet. Take the other body piece, colored side
>>up, and lay on top of it. Press along glue line to join. Let the glue
>>set.
>>
>>Step 4 - Glue Wings. Fold back the tab on each wing. Apply glue to the
>>tabs and attach one wing to each side of the body.
>>
>>Step 5 - Glue Tail. Cut the two slits in center of the tail. Fold back
>>the tabs on the body and insert one in each slit. Glue the tabs to the
>>back of the tail.
>>
>>Step 6 - Stuff Turkey. Wait for the glue to dry completely. This is
>>very important!
>>
>>Use a pencil or pen to gently open the pocket inside the turkey. Push
>>the pencil up into the head. Use the pencil to push about a fourth of a
>>tissue into the turkey's head. Push the rest of the tissue into the
>>front of the body.
>>
>>Stand the turkey on it's feet. If you have trouble getting it to stand,
>>make sure the bottoms of the feet are flat and even. You can also bend
>>the feet out. If the turkey falls back on it's tail, add some weight to
>>the front with more tissues, some tape, or a paperclip.

>>CRAFT TITLE: Thanksgiving Placemats
>>Ask the children to make a placemat for every guest. Have the children
>>think about things they know about every person and make a placemat
>>specifically with someone in mind. If you have a newcomer, this gives
>>children a chance to get to know them and makes that guest feel welcome
>>in the process. They can use pictures from old magazines, drawings or
>>both.
>>
>>AGE LEVEL: All Levels.
>>CONTRIBUTOR: Joanne Moodhe
>>COUNCIL: Rockland County Girl Scout Council, Inc.
>>
>>MATERIALS: Construction paper
>> Scissors
>> Glue
>> Crayons or markers
>> Old magazines
>>
>>PROCEDURE:
>>This craft really does not have procedures. Just use the materials, be
>>creative and make a Thanksgiving placemat.
>>

>>
>>CRAFT TITLE: Paper Bag Puppets
>>This special activity lets children exercise their imaginations in many
>>different ways. Plus, the children's performances can provide some fun
>>for an adult audience. It's a bonus that paper bag puppets are easy to
>>make and fun to use.
>>
>>AGE LEVEL: All Levels.
>>CONTRIBUTOR: Joanne Moodhe
>>COUNCIL: Rockland County Girl Scout Council, Inc.
>>
>>MATERIALS: Small brown paper bags
>> Poster paints and brushes, crayons, or markers

>>Halloween Candy Cats:
>>
>>Black film container, cord for necklace, black and pink craft foam,
>>black pipe cleaners (1 cut in 6 even pieces), wiggle eyes, pink pom-pom,

>>spray adhesive, green spray paint, acrylic spray paint (?), small red
>>fabric bows, gold braided cord, green glitter, and a tube of red fabric
>>paint.
>>
>>Start gluing puzzle pieces together, picture side up, overlapping one
>>piece UNDER CONNECTING EDGE and one piece OVER CONNECTING EDGE, forming
>>a circle. Keep going and overlapping until wreath "looks" right, (in
>>your humble opinion) !! Coat well with adhesive and allow to dry
>>overnight.
>>
>>Next day, paint each wreath with green spray paint, covering each wreath
>>really, really well. Let dry to touch and repeat process until uniform
