Daybed Curtain idea
Daybed Curtain idea
From: Rose Terry
To Adrienne who asked if I have a picture of my daughters room - no, I'm
in the dark ages when it comes to scanners and cameras, sorry.
To Rose G and anyone else interested, here's my step by step on how I
did my daughters daybed/curtainsshelves etc.
I measured about 2/3 the length of her daybed for the measurement of the
half circle or oval shape I cut from cheep wood. The shape is half oval
or half circle and is later mounted just like a SHELF above her bed,
lengthwise. After cutting I drilled holes for L-Brackets (I think I did
4-5 of them for strength. L-Brackets need to go on last before mounting
but after material. When drilling holes be sure to match up on wall and
mark there too as it's better to hit a stud or two for strength. Hubby
did most of this part for me. Note this oval shaped shelf is above eye
level above bed lengthwise. (Quite large)
Next, I padded the underside with batting and stapled it overlapping to
the top. (Top won't show). Then I stapled material draping down to
floor as if like a "sheiks harem" or "Arabian nights" or on decorating
shows like beds overhead material hanging. Stapled this after folding
material over 1/2 to insure strength (kinda like when you hem your
pants). Stapled to the top and overhanging the edge and hanging down to
floor. What I used was a couple layers of cheep netting (colored),
stapling as I pleaded the material. I used netting on outside edges
(part sticking out the most so can see through) and pretty silky
material for the rounded area closest to the wall for privacy.
You can also (I did) staple and hang netting on BACK of wood where it
connects to wall before mounting - very nice.
Believe it or not I did the bed, window, AND above daughters closet AND
all the paint/brackets/wood etc all for about $100!!! Got material all
on sale. Used lots of material as pleating causes such nice softness.
Now the best part, besides being gorgeous - It all stores kids stuff
above!! Really a lot of space!! Daughter has her dressed up Barbies
(many), Barbie car, Barbie motorhome all above daybed. Along with a
nice basket of silk flowers it's really gorgeous! Above the window I
did just about the same thing except I used mostly (long) netting and a
small amount of floral cotton with a very short skirt effect. It
doubles as a very nice curtain as I pull the netting to the sides and
tie with a silk rose garland! I'm tellin' ya it's really pretty! If I
were a little girl I'd be in heaven! Above the window we store all
20-30 teddy bears! Above closet is a much smaller space where we put
only hats. Stenciling around these shelves in roses will be beautiful,
that's my next step. It's a very Victorian room with a tea table and
drapings on table similar to netting I used, all in pink and purple, her
favorite colors!
Thinking about adding fake fence on lower wall just surrounding her tea
table - stenciling there would be interesting too!
Makes me wish I was a little girl again! By the way - there was NO
SEWING what-so-ever! Hemmed with that stickum stuff they sell. Hate
sewing.
Also, the material (rose flowered cotton) I used on the window shelving
was the same material I used to create her Victorian lamp shade with
fringe, another craft I love. Easy too, glue and material on metal
forms and waaallaa - easy for us who really aren't that creative!
I hope this helps others with ideas - it's my best I've done. I
surprised myself and it made me feel I can do anything! That's news to
me!
